Periodontal, or gum, disease is a degenerative condition that, if left untreated, can cause severe and irreversible damage to your mouth. Some of the most common symptoms and harmful side effects of gum disease include:

  • Receding gum line
  • Inflamed, sore, and bleeding gums
  • Painful chewing
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Loose or missing teeth
  • Bone loss

When periodontal disease begins damaging your gums, it is important to receive proper treatment right away. At our practice, our periodontist can perform a wide range of gum surgeries, depending on your condition and needs. Some of our gum surgeries include:

  • Gum Grafts: also known as a soft tissue graft, this procedure takes gum tissue from another area of your mouth or from a tissue bank and grafts it into your mouth where the gums have receded. Restoring a proper gum line can decrease or eliminate tooth sensitivity, decrease your risk of additional tooth damage or loss, and other side effects of periodontal disease.
  • Osseous Surgery: also known as pocket reduction surgery, this procedure reduces the depth of “pockets” that form between the teeth and gums as the gums begin to recede. These pockets are often full of harmful plaque and bacteria. Osseous surgery lifts the gum tissue away from the teeth and bone, cleans out the bacteria and plaque, and restores the proper placement of your gum tissue.

If you have any questions about our gum surgeries, or if you would like additional information, we welcome you to contact our periodontist today.
